Words and music
By Ann Hampton Callaway

When you leave a room
When you walk away
When you say goodbye
Like you did today
When nothing is left
And no one's around
I suddenly hear
A strange mournful sound
I can't count the times
It's happened before
It starts at the moment
That you've closed a door
And there in the silence
I suddenly find
The sound of the music
You leave inside my mind

It sounds very soft
And slow from the start
And just like a dream
We're no longer apart
The melody sings
My mem'ry of you
I listen in stillness
It's all I can do
And always at night
When I lay in bed
The movie begins
With your song in my head
Like footprints that trace
Your love left behind
It's all in the music
You leave inside my mind
